I can't believe this service is free. Is it really free ?
Believe it or not, writing and reading our Online Postcards is free. Operating a postcard site isn't free, of course. We therefore need to display ads on the site to cover the costs.

This site is not a commercial site, most of the work to set it up was done for free by our sponsor, www.WebdesignInternational.com. Have a look at their site, may be you can use their great services!

What are your Browser requirements ?
PalmbeachParadise.com is designed to work correctly with all the most popular web browsers. When upgrading your browser you may lose your sound or animation plug-ins. Please see our section on plug-ins for more information.

Do these postcards work with AOL or WebTV?
Yes. However it is recommended that you use the latest version of AOL and WebTV. Their new browsers support the features of our postcard service.

Do I need Java or JavaScript to use PalmbeachParadise.com Postcards?
No, it will all work without Java or JavaScript enabled in your browser. For a correct display you need however CSS support enabled. In some browsers this works only if JavaScript is enabled too. CSS is not an add-on, but a standard.

There is nothing wrong in having Java or JavaScript enabled. We might use it in the future to be able to offer you additional services.

Which Plug-ins are required for my browser ?
To send, receive and view the cards you do not need any plug-ins, all you need is just the support for MIDI music playback in order to hear the music in our cards.

All of the major browsers will install all necessary plug-ins for MIDI playback automatically when you install them, at least in their windows versions. If this did not happen for you, don't worry, all of the plug-ins needed to use our service can be downloaded for FREE. There is no need to pay for a plug-in to use our service.

To hear the musical selections you can use for example the following free MIDI plug-in for Netscape and Internet Explorer users:

I can't hear the postcard music. Does your site require special software?
First of all, you need special hardware (a sound card and speakers) and driver software to play music on a computer. To hear music on the World Wide Web you may also need a browser "plug-in". Latest versions of Netscape, Opera and Internet Explorer have music plug-ins on board and there should be no problem to play the music at our site. To take advantage of advanced features you may want to install a plug-in anyway.

We recommend the free Crescendo MIDI plug-in because at our web site Crescendo supports "streaming audio" (play music while it loads).

I did get a "500 Error" message.
Sometimes when the Internet is busy it causes data losses. Our server expresses these problems by giving you a "500 Error" message. There is usually nothing wrong with the server, nor with your browser. The best solution is simply to hit the "Reload" button on your browser. Nine times out of ten the page will reload fine.

If this does not work, try emptying your browser's cache. (Sometimes the "500 Error" message is stored in your computer, and when you try to access that page again, the browser pulls up the stored / cached error message. Clearing the cache will solve this.) To accomplish this with Netscape, go to the "Options" menu, then choose "Network preferences" and finally "Cache".

Why do I see bad colors?
It is tough to guarantee consistent, good-looking colors across a variety of browser, computer and monitor platforms. A page background may look beige in a Mac environment and brown in a Windows environment...

Your monitor's resolution will also affect the appearance of our site. Lower resolution monitors will cause our site and photos to look grainy. The picture content of E-Cards has been optimized for higher resolution monitors. On a high resolution monitor, our photos and pictures should come to your screen with crystal clarity.

Can I get an virus by using PalmbeachParadise.com Postcards?
There is no way that you can get a computer virus from sending or receiving a PalmbeachParadise.com electronic card. Our cards are simply web pages that you view with your Internet Browser. The email notifications we send you are only text messages with a hypertext link to your card and do not contain any attached files.

Our program eliminates possibly malicious code from a postcard before it is saved on our server. Also, computer viruses can't be transmitted with a postcard, because we do not transmit executable binaries to your computer. However, some anti virus programs may mix up the data in images and music files. So you can safely disregard all virus warnings that may pop up when you read or write cards at our web site.

The names and email addresses you give us when you simply send a card are NOT sold, compiled into any type of mailing list, or otherwise used for any type of email solicitation. Do I receive a confirmation indicating that my card was picked up?
Yes, when the recipient picks up your card, we send you a confirmation Email at the same time. Confirmation letters are automatically sent, therefore, we cannot prevent them from being sent to you when your card gets picked up. You will receive a confirmation email only the first time a card is picked up.

Why is a certain card no longer on your site?
From time to time, we remove or edit cards for various reasons. Mostly, we replace old cards with fresh new ones! The good news is that we are adding new content every month. To find our new cards, just visit our homepage!

I don't know the person that sent me this electronic card. Why did I get it?
Our users are asked to fill in the Email address of the person they would like to receive their cards (the recipient). In this case, when entering the Email address for the recipient, either the sender made a typo that resulted in your Email address, or it was a case of mistaken identity and somehow our customer got your Email address. (Much like a "wrong number.")

Can you track the sender of anonymous cards?
Now and then our system gets abused to send threatening or otherwise offending cards. Of course there is a fake name and email address on those postcards. However, we log the card's time and claim numbers as well as the sender's IP address. So if the culprit's Internet Service Provider is cooperative (they will support criminal investigations), these data can be used to find out their real identity. Please report all abuses to abuse@PalmbeachParadise.com.

Can unauthorized users read my cards?
No, if they do not guess your access code.
  • You need a code to access the card. This code has 12 random characters, so even a hacker entering hundreds of codes using 'brute force' would need very long to find a valid one.
  • We have a protection system installed which locks out any IP number from which it detects a hacker trying to find codes by entering a high number of codes in a short time frame.

When I return to a form some or all of my input is lost or has changed. Why?
You seem to be using a very old browser like Internet Explorer 2.x or 3.x. These browsers do not save inputs when you click the browser's BACK button to return to a form. An upgrade to a more recent browser should solve this problem.

Sometimes your program is way too slow. Can't you make it faster?
You are suffering from the World Wide Wait (slow Net traffic). Especially at the rush hours, when everybody is online, their can be data traffic jams.

The execution time of all our web programs is less than one fourth of a second. The rest of the time is the time the page needs to get from our server through the net to your screen.

Why wasn't my card picked up?
The most common reason for this is a mistyped recipient email address. If you entered a typo in the email address, your card may have been sent to the wrong address. Make sure the address is correct. If you are sure the address is correct, and you can send the person regular email, but you still can't send them our cards, then there are three possible reasons why you can't send them a card.
  • They may be using an email account issued through their place of work, and the business itself blocks our cards. You should have the recipient contact the tech support staff at his or her place of work (if applicable), or the tech support at his or her Internet Service Provider, and ask how to change the mail blocking controls.
  • It is also possible that your recipient has asked PalmbeachParadise.com to block sending of cards to their address. If this is the case, we are unable to send them any cards unless they request to be unblocked.
  • The recipient received the notification, but for whatever reason did not pick up the card.

I sent a card but received a 'bounced' or 'undeliverable' e-mail notification back in my own e-mail box.
There are two common reasons for this problem:
  • Typo in Address - This is by far the most common reason why messages are not delivered. If you included a correct "return" address, the message will automatically bounce back to you.
  • The Recipient's mail-server is not accepting new messages. For various reasons, the computer that stores e-mails for the recipient may not be accepting new messages. In this case, our server will continue to try to send the message for at least 24 hours. At that point, it will assume the mail server address is incorrect, and return to you the "bounced" e-mail notification.

I'm entering the pick-up code as it is in the E-mail, but your server does not find a card for it.
If your card was definitely sent less than 4 weeks ago, and the pickup code doesn't seem to be working, try this easy solution:

Try cutting and pasting the code from your e-mail notification directly into the form box labeled "type your pickup code here". This resolves the problem 99% of the time!

Is there a delay for the recipient to receive the postcard?
When you send an E-Card, our server (computer) sends an e-mail notification immediately. The message travels through the Internet to the ISP (Internet service provider) of the recipient. When his/her computer checks its ISP mail server, the notification will be downloaded into his/her mail program.

This process usually is extremely fast.

Occasionally delays may occur for these reasons:
  • There is an error in the recipient's e-mail address.
We find that the Number One reason a message was not delivered is that there was a typo in the address. To prevent this please check the address carefully!
  • There is something wrong with the recipient's mail server.
When you "send" an E-Card, our server (computer) immediately attempts to e-mail the intended recipient. If, for some reason, the recipient's mail server (the computer that acts as a mailbox for their e-mails) does not respond to our server, then our server will hold the message and try again about an hour later. Our server will continue to try to send the message for many hours. If the recipient's server still does not respond, our server will assume that the given e-mail address was incorrect, and erases the message.
  • The Recipient's e-mail administrator is blocking messages from PalmbeachParadise.com.
To prevent junk mail or SPAM, technical administrators have the ability to block all messages coming from a particular server. Because of the volume of E-Cards sent, administrators sometimes incorrectly assume that E-Cards are SPAM. PLEASE help us stop this silliness!
If you have tried repeatedly and unsuccessfully to send E-Cards to a given domain (such as @aol.com or @company.com), with an e-mail address you know is correct, please send a friendly inquiry to the recipient's network coordinator. This person usually can be reached by sending a message to webmaster@domain.com (insert the recipient's "domain.com"). Messages should include the address you are attempting to send to, our www.PalmbeachParadise.com domain name - which is the origin of the e-mail, a link to our terms of service, and a brief explanation that we actively discourage SPAM and are simply a fun service. Thank you for your help!

Why does it say "email address not valid!" when I am trying to send a card?
When inputting addresses into our cards, you must be sure to enter a complete email address (for example, postcards@PalmbeachParadise.com) and not just a name. Also, do not include quotes or brackets around the email address.
